BAKER COUNTY CONSOLIDATED

9-1-1

DISPATCH CENTER

Mobile Communications Unit

Supported by its incident dispatch team, Baker County Consolidated 9-1-1 Dispatch maintains three mobile communications units (MCU) for use in significant incidents in the field where on-site communications coordination is warranted under the Incident Command System.

An immediate response to an incident can be accomplished using the NIMS Type IV resource.  That is a 2006 Ford F 150 4 wheel drive pickup equipped with radios allowing interoperability within Baker County, five adjacent Oregon Counties, and two bordering counties in Idaho.

For incidents of larger magnitude requiring prolonged operation our Type II MCU may be assigned.  It is a 2011 Ford F 350 4 wheel drive with custom communications compartment.  It features radios interoperable with all counties as noted above as well as several additional counties in Oregon.  It contains two dispatch positions with networked computers.  The on board computer aided dispatch system (CAD) can be tied to the dispatch center server remotely via internet connectivity.

Even longer term incidents will result in assignment of the center’s 26 foot command and communications trailer.  It is, for communications purposes, a NIMS Type III resource.  In addition to communications it provides the Incident Commander and his/her immediate staff with workspace.  It contains a kitchen as well as restroom facilities.

All three of these resources are available to other jurisdictions under existing mutual aid agreements and can be assigned stand alone or staffed by one or more of our 8 certified Incident Dispatchers or two trained Comm L’s (Communications Unit Leaders).  These vehicles are supported by our in-house, part time communications technician.
